I believe that Jose Martinez is playing in the Mexican League the last 2 years.

Nationals released RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon.

Ponce de Leon signed a minor league contract with the Nationals back in late July and has been jettisoned after making seven unremarkable starts for Triple-A Rochester. The 30-year-old righty, who also spent time at Triple-A Tacoma earlier this year in the Mariners' system, hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2021 campaign.

Edwin Jackson has announced his retirement from professional baseball.

Jackson, who last appeared in the majors back in 2019 with the Tigers, took to Instagram on Friday evening to make the official announcement. The journeyman right-hander put together a remarkable career, suiting up for 14 different teams over 17 seasons in the majors since 2003. His signature moment came on June 25, 2010 when he fired a staggering 149-pitch no-hitter against the Rays at Tropicana Field. It's been a fun journey, Edwin.

Jackson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019. I always find it odd that guys have to officially announce their retirement when they've been out of the league for 3 years.

Not sure if this was posted yet. Can't read behind paywall but it looks like Spiezio's had it pretty rough

I wonder if it has to be done to begin his retirement benefits.

Old friend Miguel Cairo is the acting manager for the White Sox while TLR is out, and has a 10-4 W/l record. Ken Rosenthal has an open letter to TLR in the Athletic urging him not to come back.

I googled the article and could read it without the paywall.

It talks a good bit about his time as a Cardinal being when things got bad for him.
Spiezio said he drank during games in 2007. He’d bring out a water bottle that had some diluted vodka in it. Before some games that year, Spiezio said he’d use cocaine. While he became a fan favorite with clutch hitting and a bright red soul patch on his chin, Spiezio was deteriorating behind the scenes.

“It was one of those things where you couldn’t really even help him,” said David Eckstein, a teammate of Spiezio’s in both Anaheim and St. Louis. “He was on this path. You could see the destruction that was going on.
