11 years ago today, Chris Carpenter made a diving play at first base, Lance Berkman drove in a pair of runs, and the bullpen threw three shutout innings as the Cardinals won Game 1 of the 2011 World Series:

On this date in 1981, the Cardinals traded pitcher Bob Sykes to the Yankees for a minor-league outfielder named Willie McGee. McGee went on to win the 1985 NL MVP, two batting titles, and three Gold Glove awards in an 18-year MLB career:
