Right now our 40 man has stuff like James Naile, Jake Walsh, Wilking Rodriguez, and Guillermo Zuniga. There's room to jettison some fluff to add a real reliever or Wacha for that matter. But we won't.
Weirdly enough I'd like to see what we have in W-Rod and Zuniga. We have the Jeff Albert of pitching coaches now (innovative hire type) in Dusty Blake and I'm curious what he sees in these guys who do have good stuff but just need to put it together.
I feel like one or all three of Rodriguez, Zuniga, and Romero will have a big impact on the pen. With one of them rising up to the 7th inning SU role. Which we likely need as Cabby started to fall off. Would love for that role to be Hicks's to lose but he's so hard to predict.
Cardinals signed SS Arquimedes Gamboa to a minor league contract.
Gamboa provides the Cardinals with some upper-level minor league middle infield depth. The 25-year-old shortstop, who has yet to reach the majors, batted .239/.337/.349 with four homers and seven steals across 296 plate appearances last year for Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants' minor league system. He was an interesting prospect a few years ago with the Phillies, but he's merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.
