Yadi and Waino made a combined 27.5 this year. Combine that coming off the books with the monster revenue this year produced and the FO has a few bucks to play with.

I think it might make more sense to go after Sean Murphy in a trade from the A's to be the Cardinals catcher next year. Murphy is a good hitter even though Willson Contreras might be better but Contreras defense and handling of the pitchers would be a drastic dropoff from Yadi.
Oh I’d prefer Murphy way over Contreras but he would cost prospects whereas WC would just be DeMoney. Anything is better than what StL had in that spot in the order this year though.
True, Murphy would cost some prospects but Contreras is going to cost like 20 million a year if not more. If it comes down to the Cardinals trading for someone like Murphy and re-signing Jose Quintana or just signing Contreras I think I would go with option A.

This team needs to address the lead off spot. They need someone who can hit and have a good OBP. Maybe a leadoff hitter that can play SS?
I don't think that the Cards are going to invest a lot of money into SS knowing that Masyn Winn is right around the corner.

Interesting offseason coming up. I don't expect a big time move this winter. I feel they will bank on the young talent. Rotation will be filled out by a returning Waino or if he retires, Quintana for a 2 year 12.5 mil per year type of deal.

if we can land a Sean Murphy, it completely changes the lineup...

Donovan-2b
Carlson-CF
Goldy-1B
Arenado-3B
TON-LF
Murphy-C
Noot-RF
Edman-SS

that one piece seems to make the lineup so much more complete.

our SP wasn't the issue once we got Quintana and Montgomery, but I'd still like to have a Rodon-type instead of re-signing Quintana (and hope Waino retires)...but at the same time, more than anything I hope they finally learned their lesson....AGAIN....and not go with ONLY the injury risk 5 pitchers again to start the season, and have contingencies signed.

It’ll be months of Carlson happy talk. Just like DeJong last year.

Carlson, TON, and Gorman are really the keys to the team next year.

All 3 need to step it up. but especially Carlson. It's time.

I am OK re-signing Waino.

Rotation should be Mikolas, Flaherty, Montgomery, and Matz with room for one more starter.

Hudson and Liberatore would serve as 6 and 7.

Would also be OK with dealing Flaherty.

Forget about upgrading at SS. Not gonna happen, and nor should it happen. Tommy is fine there.

Catcher is the spot where we can use immediate help. That's where the money and or trade assets need to go.
