Blues just dominated Calgary tonight. Possibly the most enjoyable game all season. Playoff atmosphere, lots of action, a huge fight at the end with an undersized Nathan Walker winning against a much bigger opponent (who has been gooning it up quite a bit the last period). The crowd was PUMPED up like I haven't heard in ages. I really hope something is brewing now!!!

Fun two wins! Man, Fowler has been such a nice fit with Parayko. And how about capn schenner?! He’s been a ppg player the past 10/11 games or so. Back up to respectable (lower tier) second line pace (18g, 48p). If we can squeeze a couple more 50+ point seasons out of that contract, to keep us competitive in these reload years (and keep us from forcing the kids into big situations before they’re ready), that would be so huge.

Also saw that apparently DA met with the team and said win more or he will start making trades.

I think Faksa has been very underrated playing in the bottom 6, too. During his absence our offense was pretty stagnant. Now he's back and Schenn is clicking, we are really getting good production up and down the lines!

I hadn't heard that about Army throwing down the gauntlet like that. Dude has big brass balls. He's going to be missed.

I keep hearing little tidbits about the blues needing more from the third line. I’m sure it’s true, but if I’m DA I stand pat unless it’s a Fowler type addition (short term vet for minimal cost… which I don’t see because everyone could use another 2/3 center) or a sell of a vet (saad) or a hockey trade (maybe trading some of our forward prospects for a young rd or something)

All of which is unlikely, other than maybe moving saad for a 3rd if we’re lucky.

So barring any of that, stand pat. Let the kids develop.

Also agreed on faksa. He’s a guy I’d resign for a million if he’d take it. (Like we did with kapanen). Any more and I’d pass (unless we somehow move sunny, which I doubt)

Blues likely need to move saad or leddy to make all the salary fit next year if my playing around with Gm mode in puckpedia means anything (assuming hofer back at $2.25-2.5 per for a couple of years (building to a big payday when binner’s deal ends)

That game in Utah last night was hard to stomach. They played a great game for two minutes and then went to sleep for 30. When they finally came to, they just couldn't solve the Utah goalie.

Army might start ringing some other GMs phones soon.

I'm not sure how to feel about last night's game against VGS. They played a really good game, were up 4-2 with 5 minutes left, but VGS was tilting the ice at that point. As they say in football, prevent defense doesn't accomplish anything except preventing you from winning... And that's pretty much exactly what happened. VGS scored late to make it 4-3. Uh oh. Then they pulled the goalie and had their way in our end. Finally getting the equalizer with under 30 seconds.

What frustrates me is that whenever we're up and the other team pulls their goalie, it sure looks to me like our D is not pressuring enough. Other teams have all the room they need to pass it around, get good looks, drive the net, create chaos. Sometimes we get lucky and keep it out. But it feels like we're worse at closing out 1 goal leads than all the other "good" teams. VGS basically had 3+ minutes in our zone at the end of the game. It felt inevitable that they were going to score. And they did. And conversely, when we're down 1 or 2 and pull the goalie, it seems like other teams pressure the F**K out of us and we have a really tough time getting set up. I think we give up ENGs more than we manage to score, too.

After the let down of giving up a 2 goal lead that late in the game, I figured we were going to lose in OT. And we probably should have. Eichel missed a wide open net on a brilliant pass that found him in behind Binnington. He missed the tap in by 6 inches. LOL. They had a couple of other really great chances during 3 on 3, too. Blues had a couple as well. But it went to shootout and we managed to prevail somehow.

Again, I have no idea how to feel about this. It was so deflating to let that lead go. But then again, it was a gutsy OT/SO win over one of the best teams in the league.

Shrugs.

Yeah, we’re soooo bad when the other team pulls their goalie, that I expect them to score every [expletive] time. And it seems like they do (in my mind)

Oh well, still got the 2 points and if we’re going to give 1 point to a team, at least it’s to the 1st place team and not a team we’re chasing a spot for.

Whoa! Looks like the avs traded ratanen to Carolina for necas and drury, a 2nd and a 4th. Seems to be a 3 way trade with Taylor hall also going to Carolina, chi getting a third and maybe retaining some salary on rantanen, but not hall.

I’m dizzy trying to digest all that. Details keep changing but that’s what is currently on nhl.com so I figure that’s at least confirmed. https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/aval ... team-trade

Obviously rantanen is the best player in the deal but necas is really good too, though a fa after next year in line for a big payday, but for way less than rantanen.

If Chicago got a 3rd effectively for hall while retaining salary on rantanen, that’s probably a best case scenario for a saad trade unless he goes on a tear. (Just my opinion which is often way off) hall has better numbers than saad but a higher salary, but a fa at the end of the year so who knows.

I read a couple articles speculating that Star players may get moved before the 4 nations tournament (otherwise, an injury risk to the team trading them)

I wonder if the market for role players doesn’t really move much until after the tournament. Teams focusing on big names first maybe.
