Rant: Russian Bots... Rave: Admins
Just saw a bot post in interviews that was entirely in Russian. Thanks to the mods for keeping this place organized.
Question though: What purpose do they think it's going to have, posting spam on an English message board??? Like, I don't get it. What's their angle? Why wouldn't their time be better spent ginning up more fake news crap and posting it on the tweeters, or even hacking Ukrainian or NATO systems???

It's their algorithm. May be a bug. Who knows.GeddyWrox wrote: ↑March 31 22, 9:34 amJust saw a bot post in interviews that was entirely in Russian. Thanks to the mods for keeping this place organized.

But I'll bet you anything there wasn't a human anywhere close to the decision to post on some small American sports bulletin board.

Right, but like, why bother programming the bot to do that. I don't see what it accomplishes for them. I would think they would want to spend their bot-creating energy on something that has a net benefit. Or at the very least, post it in english and you might dupe one or two really stupid idiots into clicking a malicious link? FIIKJoe Shlabotnik wrote: ↑March 31 22, 9:46 amIt's their algorithm. We probably ban 3-5 russian spambots a day, sometimes more. Best I can tell it's an SEO trick to try to boost whatever crappy website they're trying to promote. I appreciate everyone who flags those posts because it makes it easier for us to go in and ban them and remove the posts.
But I'm never banning kryptopoulin. I believe it is the future.

Ahh, that does kinda make sense. But it seems like there would be more optimal ways of boosting search engine stats. Shrugs.

That's a good idea. I'm open to suggestions. Or we can just surprise you.
