Rant - Kia Boyz

Post by Famous Mortimer »

My car was stolen a few weeks ago, by our favourite TikTok trend followers the Kia Boyz. $1000 deductible on my insurance. They left it about ten blocks south of my house.

I was given a 2021 Toyota Rav 4 while the car was getting repaired, and last night that was stolen too! Another $1000 deductible!

So either there's someone who lives near me who checks all the cars every night, and I got extremely unlucky (was the fob close enough to the car to just allow the thief to open the door?); or some professionals drove through town and decided to check my alleyway.

I'm thoroughly worn out from all this. With taxes and fees and all that other stuff Americans love putting on [expletive] everything, I'm going to be short the best part of $3000, because Kia cut a corner somewhere and now thieves are sharing tips on the biggest social media site in the world. Isn't life grand?

State streets, just off Cherokee. Not a great neighborhood, but not terrible, either.

Now everyone knows where to go steal a car.

You could buy a Club and start using it.

I thought it turned out those don’t work?

As far as I know, they work. As with anything, given enough time and tools you can remove it. But it will deter the crooks just seeking a quick score.

I had recalled some locks you could open just by jamming a ball point pen casing down in it but I think it was bike locks. Apparently the originals just had the steering wheel cut and pulled off the The Club.

LockPickingLawyer seems to think the double hook model is ok; I can't imagine someone getting tips on stealing Kia's off TikTok are gonna waste the time to research and then pick it but who knows.

Man, that just sucks.

I would definitely try something like the club, if anything it would hopefully have them move to the next car.

How about a manual transmission? Reduce would-be car thieves to those that can drive stick.
