Re: General Soccer Thread
Should have happened after the World Cup.
Rumors of locker room issues with players not being able to [expletive] about the coach with his son as an important teammate.
I'm hearing Klinssmann or Marcelo Lippe. Going foreign will be interesting.

Thanks, also, you're a ninja mod bully for cleaning up your own mess like that.thrill wrote:Should have happened after the World Cup.

Who would you like to see as manager?

Guus Hiddink. He's with Turkey right now though. Someone with enough clout to stand up to Sunil Gulati and Don Garber over silly stuff like MLS not observing FIFA blackout dates and unnecessary money grab friendlies like Spain right before the Gold Cup.

I think I'd like to see Klinsmann. With his US exposure he's not going to be some International Professor at relating to players, he plays an entertaining and successful brand of soccer that suits us better in all the games we play against inferior CONCACAF teams, he's very interested in the entirety of the developmental system producing players for that brand of soccer, and he was strong enough to tell USSF to screw off when they didn't meet his criteria last time around.

He's in California right now. So is Sunil Gulati.
He was just so bad at Bayern though that was a poisoned situation. I'd be fine with him.

Grant Wahl tweeted an insider told him we wouldn't be surprised by the selection.

I would have to think that points right to Klinsmann, or are they that fond of someone like Kreis?US Soccer insider: "You're not going to be surprised" by identity of new coach.
Or you could say the same thing seconds before I did. Also an option.

Klinsi!
Check out some of the best lead performances by a german dude since Logjammin.
[/youtube]
It will probably be a lateral at best move, but hell, I'm excited for a new direction. I'm slightly concerned that he doesn't know where his bread is buttered in terms of attacking leadership (he loves Donovan, but Dempsey is by far the better alpha dog). We'll see.
