Well, he did say he wanted to pitch in the postseason this year.
And, of course I know we have to get to the postseason before we can worry about the postseason rotation. But I'm sure TLR at least thought about it before he decided to flip-flop Carp and Lohse so Carp could get the final-game start if necessary.
FWIW, Jackson's final regular-season start is due on Sunday, September 25, and Garcia's will be on Monday, September 26 - so for them to start Games 1 and 2 in Philly would have them each going on five days' rest. Carp would start Game 3, also on five days' rest, on Tuesday, October 4. Lohse, assuming he doesn't have to start a tiebreaker game on Thursday the 29th, would be available for Game 4 on Wednesday, October 5 on 10 days' rest, or they could go with Westbrook on 7 days' rest or even Jackson on four days' rest. Game 5 would be anybody but Carpenter, who wouldn't be available until Game 1 of the NLCS.

Hmm... I think it would. Of course, it'd also be as meaningless as Bernie Williams holding the MLB post-season HR record (until Manny leapfrogged him).

That's the unwritten rule. If you are playing a team in the race then you have an obligation. That's not saying you are going to have guys out there busting their asses, but they should be at least out there.
I doubt the Braves see Lee or Halladay, tho.
I think you are right. They have Doc Saturday and I'm assuming Lee Sunday to give them extra rest. Maybe Lee wouldn't like to have that much time (week) being more of a finesse guy and would like his start pushed back to Monday. That's possible.
I just want to apologize in advance, I bought tickets to the Friday night Cubs game, which of course means we will get swept by the Mets and that game will mean nothing.

I don't think game 163 is considered post season.
Correct - tiebreaker games are considered part of the regular season, and the events of those games count in the standings. Thus, the 1962 Giants and Dodgers are listed as having played 165 games that year, since they had a 3-game tiebreaker series that year; the 1946 Cardinals are listed as having finished 2 games ahead of Brooklyn since, although they tied at the end of the 154-game season, they won 2 straight to take *that* tiebreaker series.

didnt know about the 3 game playoff.
Thanks Jmo
If you look at the standings for 1962
expansion Mets at 40-120
Cubs at 59-103
Houston Colt 45's at 64-96

the other 7 teams were over 500.
Yep - two expansion teams and the Cubs, which sounds about right. IIRC, 1962 was the second year of the Cubs "college of coaches" approach to management; it was also Lou Brock's rookie season with them.
Richie Ashburn, FWIW, was voted the Mets' MVP that year. He later said, "I'm not sure what message it sends to be voted the most valuable player on the worst team ever."
