Does the love, commitment and respect from fans mean nothing to him? He won't be thinking about Arte Moreno when he's in the batter's box; he'll be thinking about all the people wearing #5 jerseys showing him love from the stands. He'll get that for a time in LA, but when he declines, he could very well become a villain.

Most of you have probably seen this recent Viva El Birdos post but it's worth a read if you haven't. More than anything, it illustrates how sad this whole thing is for the younger fans. When I first heard the news on Thursday I was somewhat pissed but OK...now that I've allowed it to sink in the last few days I'm trying to move on but can't help but feel really sad at all this. Seeing him in the Angels jersey and cap is just surreal and extremely depressing. Part of my sadness stems from the fact that when I eventually take my now 13-mo-old twins to their first Cardinals game I won't be able to introduce them to one of the best Cardinals players of all time. At the same time, I'm glad they're too young to be Cardinals fans and I don't have to explain to them why their favorite player left. My sincere sympathies to all you parents out there with 6- to 12-year olds who are being hit hard by this.

Angels fans: when he's inevitably hitting .270 with 20 homers in about 5 years, don't boo him. He might start weeping again...like a girl...and we all know there's nothing worse than watching a fat man cry. Well, maybe seeing what your favorite players are really like when the curtain gets pulled back and you see what they are really like.

He's a tender guy, that's for sure.

I understand that CC and said kind of the same thing many posts ago. It will be harder on the kids that worshiped Albert and saw him play a lot.

But really, I love Musial and never saw him take an at bat. Never saw Dizzy or Gibby throw a pitch. Ozzie ended up on bad terms and he's still my favorite, though I only saw about six games live and just a handful on TV. I'm not a parent and never will be, but if I was I would tell my kids how great of a player Albert was and that the Cards were lucky to have him for as long as they did.

The whole thing is sad and stupid. It shows the ridiculousness that comes with living in such a bubble that one measures "commitment" and respect in hundreds of millions of dollars. I have a feeling Pujols will regret this decision once he gets some distance from it.

Does anyone know what the Marlins final offer was anyway? I heard after he told them no, it was no where close to the rumored $275 mil.
