common sense seems lost on them or, in reality, Pujols knows he'll be nothing in 7 years and knows he needed the guaranteed money.

I'm also tired of the suggestion that the Cards had two years to get this done. That's true, I guess, if the Cards wanted to pay him $260 million for 10 years.

Why does any of this matter, if God told him to play for the Angels? I thought Albert said that Anaheim was "pulling at his heart", or something like that.
Was it about the money, or was it about God and his heart?
For what it's worth, the article on MLBTR suggests Deidre was pissed that a significant portion of the Cards' 10 year offer was deferred. They need to realize that as a mid-market franchise the Cards just can't pay the kind of money they wanted year in and year out.
Is deferred money really such an insult? That seems like a pretty standard thing anymore; I know Holliday has a significant portion of his contract deferred, and several other Cards have done that too. I'd think even Albert's ego would be able to cope with that.
