Twins are a bad enough team to where they can afford to keep him on the roster all year. Glad to see Erik getting a shot.

I don't the roster requirement is as such. You can DFA a rule V but I think you first have to offer him back to the team he was drafted from. And you forfeit the $50,000 (?) fee.JoeMcKim wrote:When you dfa a ruld 5 guy the team who picks him up is also reauired to ke

At this point, I think EK is a FA and the next club has no real commitment. Someone please clarify.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
The rules just changed on the rule V draft. Once you DFA a rule V player, he goes on waivers (kind of like going back into the draft). I guess the point is, he was picked by the Cards so the other teams that didn't get a chance to pick him earlier gets a chance to now. Once they pick him off waivers, it's like they drafted him rule V. So, they have to keep him on their roster or go through the process again. Then, the next team would keep him on the roster...
If he passed through waivers, he can be returned to his original team (Washington, I believe) for $25,000, or StL could have worked out a trade for him that would allow him to be optioned to AAA and back.
I believe the Cards have to forfeit the $50,000 posting fee and the Twins are exempt from it, but I may be wrong on that.
