It was a case of filling a short term need outweighing a potential longterm gain.

Cards, unfortunately, got neither benefit.

Have the Indians won a World Series since the trade?

Not saying the deal won the Cards the series (because it didn't,) but I thought that was the point of playing games and making deals, trying to winning it all.

Orioles signed LHP J.C. Romero to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
Romero was released by the Cardinals earlier this month after allowing 14 hits and nine runs in eight innings. He'll act as organizational relief depth for the O's.

I wasn't making a judgement on the trade so much as commenting on the vagaries of trades.

The idea behind the pickup of DeRosa was sound: trade an extra part for something certain.

Unfortunately, DeRosa got hurt and Perez has done well since leaving.

It was a chance worth taking IMHO.
