Zeus, this is probably only for you.
Found the Big Star documentary, Nothing Can Hurt Me on On Demand cable last night.
Didn't even know it existed. Bought my first Big Star album at a record store in Champaign in 1984 or 85. Must have read about them somewhere, searched them out and couldn't find anything at first. Got a whole lot easier to find after the Replacements song in '87.

Very important rapper Kanye West got paid a very large sum of money to perform a show this weekend that basically no one watched, thus potentially wounding his spirit for years to come. West earned a reported $3 million to play at the wedding of the grandson of Kazakhstan’s longtime president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. That compensation should somewhat soften the blow, considering descriptions of the event circulating in the press and on Instagram make it sound like West’s worst nightmare, with guests choosing to take pictures in front of the bewildered-looking rapper performing on a bare stage, rather than actually watching the show.

I really want to see that, even though I know the story already and have read the reviews of the movie.lukethedrifter wrote:Zeus, this is probably only for you.

I Am Very Mediocre. It was the first album of theirs where I felt they missed the target. Most of the songs seemed either lethargic or more committed to throwing in extra sounds and instruments, rather than letting the song develop more smoothly (and the lyrics didn't tell stories the way their prior albums excelled at). The Valley and We Need a Myth are the only songs I still listen to much from that album. It's probably not a coincidence that this was the only album that Will Sheff self-produced; I think his talents are stronger in songwriting and arrangement. Not that I know much about production. Maybe he just didn't have the musical ideas for that album, for whatever reason.Arthur Dent wrote:What did you think of I Am Very Far?heyzeus wrote:The new Okkervil River album is very autumnal and pretty.
