There were hopes Destiny would be the next great leap forward for FPS, but instead we're getting a solid MMOish FPS with an incomprehensible story and repetitive game play that is only good if you have friends to play with (unbelievability there's no co-op match making). It also appears Destiny is setup to milk you with DLC. ugh.
To put it another way - the PS4 version is
sitting at 75% on metacritic right now. I think most people were expecting a minimum of high 80's for this game.
At the very least I would wait until Bungie irons out a lot of the kinks.
I've been pretty disappointed with it so far. As far as being a Halo-esque FPS it's phenomenal. The guns are great, the shooting is solid, enemies are challenging and the AI is one of the best i've played against. The attack pace is slightly slower than average, which I prefer.
The MMO part of it really sucks. Each zone in instanced, so there are only 4-5 people in one area with me at any given time. Rarely are they trying to do the same thing as me, and since I don't have a headset I don't even know if I can talk to them outside of waving and pointing.
The single player reminds me a lot of grinding in World of Warcraft. Except you're mostly doing it by yourself, fighting in restricted areas with no one around you. There is no such thing as split-screen co-op, so if you want to play with a friend they need a tv, system, game, account, internet, etc. which is really disappointing.
I was really hoping for a heavier RPG/team element, but it's really just Halo with a visual waiting area.
