I've been kicking around buying a current gen system and getting back into gaming a little bit. Is there a clear winner between the XB1 and PS4? I doubt I would play online much, mostly just getting baked and meandering through a FPS or sports game. It seems like there are some pretty good Xbox deals right now.

for a variety of reasons i'm an xbox guy but if you have no loyalties you might consider PS4. ps4 will have the best baseball game out there. other than halo, its got all the shooters. i suppose it would just come down to specific exclusives you may like/want. other than that, 95% games are made for all consoles.

i couldn't tell you about the specs versus each other but i *think* technically ps4 is more powerful. im sure there are a bajillion articles out there though.

that said, i really enjoy the xbox system and would recommend it too (though no kinect for me). and the reason i finally got one now is A) fallout 4 B) those good deals they were offering.

I have both consoles. The PS4 is a bit more powerful, which is nice. For example, sometimes multiplatform games run at 900p for XB1 and 1080p on the PS4. Honestly, because I sit away from my TV I can't tell much of a difference, but YMMV.

As you said I've noticed better XB1 deals lately. Personally, I enjoy XB1 exclusive content more, but that's a personal preference. I also like the XB1 controller more. If you currently own an xbox 360 an XB1 is attractive because they are adding backward compatibility.

That said, if your friends own a certain system I'd go with that one. That way you can trade games and there's a chance you might play with them online someday even though it doesn't sound like you're interested in doing that.

I think you'll be happy with either one. I wouldn't sweat the decision too much.

I've always been an Xbox guy as well, so that's probably what I'll end up with. I always was kind of jealous of The Show, but baseball games bore me pretty quick anyway. Is there any reason I would need the 1TB if I'm just a light gamer?

I agree.

Also, I have the XB1 Kinect and it's useless. The next xbox update drops Kinect gestures, which is kind of funny. I don't know why they even sell Kinect anymore.

It's funny how hyped Kinect was at one point. I think it was considered an answer to the Wii in some ways.

I enjoyed ours, and it was a good way for me and the kids to get some exercise in the winter. There was a game that came with it where you had to duck, jump, lean, or move your arms and legs based on the obstacles, and it was a pretty good workout. The main problem was how often the camera would "lose" you and you'd have to get back in just the right spot. Not really made for most living rooms.

Using it to control the Xbox felt more like a novelty. It recognized voice controls and often when I'd leave the Kinect on it would take dialogue from a movie as a command and then pause or rewind based on that. Really frustrating.
