Persecution for speaking out is not uncommon in country music, but Gill — Grand Ole Opry member, Time Jumper, occasional Eagle, Hall of Famer, Grammy winner — decided that now was no time to resist singing about matters that drive the world around us. Okie, out last Friday, is a public clearing of Gill’s conscience, a platform for discussion, and a celebration of love and devotion. Gill tackles sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, race, and our incessant desire to be right with emotional fortitude but without judgment.

That was a great article. He seems like a genuinely good guy and he's obviously supremely talented.

If you’re a Robert Plant (not Led Zep particularly) fan or just a real music fan, check out his podcast, Digging Deep.

The new Lana Del Ray album is pretty great. She had me from the opening line--a purred "God Damn, man child / you [expletive] me so good that I almost said 'I love you"--all kept me all the way through.

Tinariwen. Please check them out. Awesome Touareg guitar rock from northern Mali.

They’re on tour in the US for about 6 weeks starting this week. I’m going to take my Oct vacation in one of the cities they are playing in.
