If MLB ever resumes, the pitchers especially will need time to get arms back in shape. In my opinion, this is an over reaction by all sports because of a hysteria driven media.
With all due respect, no, these are the kinds of actions necessary to stave off a situation that, unchecked, could kill millions of people. Get acquainted with your house, we will all be spending a lot of time there over the next month.
Agreed. This article makes the severity of the situation quite clear, and waiting to act will only make it worse.

With all due respect then, this same thing should have been done with Ebola, HBN1, Sars , the Swine Flu, and Mars...but it wasn't. A National Emergency was not even called for HBN1 until over 1000 Americans were dead. This is a media induced panic nothing more.

It is more - it is a media and government induced panic. The government response has poured gasoline on the fire.

The media would have been happy to get a panic going for the previous viruses. But they never caught on and destroyed the way Coronavirus has. If you think the media isn't trustworthy, look at what the market is doing. Look at what the President is doing in banning travel. Look at the bodies piling up.

This has had a different response because the virus is different.

You may have any opinion you like about our current President, but some countries round the world are run by sensible people, and they're doing the same sort of things.

2009 swine flu stats .
Silence .
No run on toilet paper .
Don’t remember everything coming to a screeching halt .
Politics ( make your own call ) .
Exactly, whats different about this than SARS, MERS, H1N1?
The below video is a good example of how this compares to them and what governments are trying to prevent (the first half of the video is the useful part)

Ebola 60.8% mortality, now that would be worthy of panic.

Very cool video. It is a bit more nuanced of course. The etiology of Ebola contributes to how it hasn't spread as significantly as these other epidemics/pandemics. Rapid onset of symptoms allows faster diagnosis and isolation. The more devastating symptoms and mortality contributes to people taking the virus serious, isolating patients and limiting its spread. Since Covid-19 doesn't present with symptoms for several days during which it can spread, you can expect a higher infection rate. If it is as high as what the German health agency expects (60-70%) and you apply that against a global population of 7.5 billion, that could be 4.5 billion infected. If the mortality rate stays around 2%, that's 90 million deaths, which would be significant. That's why you see individual countries taking such draconian steps to control the spread of the virus.

Wash your hands, stay home if you are sick and help the people most susceptible to this virus by...washing your hands and staying home if you are sick.

But in terms of evolution, the Ebola virus was a failure. It was so deadly that it tended to kill off its victims before they could spread it widely.

This coronavirus is not nearly as deadly, and but its victims can walk around for days and easily infect numerous people by simply breathing on them. The problem with this virus is the vast number of infections that will take place.
