Woke up this morning with a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. In addition to self-quarantining at home, I am also totally unconcerned about people “panicking.”

I should have posted about panicking over in the crumbling financial system thread. Between the market and breathless headlines, it looks like panic to me.

But I'm not caring whether this takes me or not. It is what is. Life.

One if my friends who has been in quarantine for about 6 days has developed symptoms.

And LOL at the factory I work at. They just put out an altered tornado procedure. They expanded the rooms that we can shelter in so we can all try to maintain a 6 foot separation between each other while in shelter. They really think they are just going to work straight through this thing.

I was able to speak with my mother on the phone for the first time in eight days. She was doing o.k. She can't really carry on a conversation anymore: she's confused about time and place due to dementia and severe short-term memory loss. But she instantly recognized my voice and was happy to hear from me.

It makes a difference. Even though she will quickly forget the call, after eight years of regular visits, she's come to understand that family is nearby and ensuring her safety.

The loss of feeling safe will be hardest for her. (She grinds her teeth so much out of worry that she breaks them.) When this is all over, she may no longer recognize me.
