Covid is preventing people that need medical care from getting medical care because they’re afraid to go into the hospital.

Last Thursday, my mother was sent to the hospital from her nursing home--not for the virus, but because she briefly zoned out and wasn't responsive to questions, although she snapped back to her usual self when the ambulance arrived. Also, her blood pressure was sky high.

Long story short: she had a UTI, but a CT scan revealed a stroke that likely occurred four months ago that's causing her brain to atrophy. She's now in quarantine at the nursing home for another ten days, just in case she picked up the virus while at the hospital. I'm sure she has no idea what's going on, likely calling out my name to help her, which is what she usually does when she's confused.

No patients or staff at the nursing home seem to have the virus, so far. However, another nursing home in town (a good one, Treyton Oak) has the highest number of deaths in the state--eleven so far, with many staff members and residents infected with it. It's a huge high-rise facility in Old Louisville that combines independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. It's probably a blessing that my mother's facility is small.
