That MLB and minor league ball were playing in front of crowds (as far as I know) right through a pandemic that was more lethal than this one. How many players died? Any studies done on infection rates impacted by the playing of mlb at that time? If it happened, I've never read about it.
It's interesting how different the responses are.

There is just no way to make minor league baseball profitable in the current situation. Minor league baseball doesn't have television deals and holding the games just to hold the games has no way of producing revenue. So why you go through all of the current hoops to avoid spreading COVID if you're just holding games that no one will ever see.

And oddly enough, they were more careful about the pandemic a hundred years ago than people are today.

huh? a lot of players and coaches died? from the spanish flu? i count 2 according to your link. and 1 of those was while serving in WW1
here's a link that goes into a little more detail: https://baseballhall.org/discover/1918- ... e-baseball
oddly enough, according to your link, babe ruth contracted the spanish and with a little treatment (prolly booze and hot dogs), he recovered in a week.
it's also notable, the average life expectancy was about half what it is today though.
it was just a much different time then.

Any news on when fans would be allowed to start attending games (if at all)?
