Okay, I think there was a lot of rumors back in April and May of what they would try to implement for this season and only certain things became true.

Tim McCarver has decided not to do any broadcasts this year.

I’m not mad about it.

Sean McAdam of Boston Sports Journal reported the list of the 11 umpires who have decided to opt out of the 2020 season.

The list: Tom Hallion, Mike Winters, Fieldin Culbreth, Phil Cuzzi, Brian Gorman, Jerry Layne, Scott Barry, Kerwin Danley, Sam Holbrook & Gerry Davis. Jon Heyman of MLB Network adds that Brian O’Nora and Bruce Dreckman. If O'Nora and Dreckman are to sit out, that would mean 13 of the 76 umpires in the union would not be participating in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Am I the only one counting 12 umpires in that list? Who is the 13th?

The Associated Press reports that the Canadian government has denied approval for the Blue Jays to play games in Toronto during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There appeared to be some optimism about the possibility just a couple of days ago, with city and provincial governments signing off on the plan, but the federal government ultimately decided against it. This is undoubtedly due to the risk presented by Blue Jays players and opposing teams traveling from hot spots in the United States (including Florida) to Canada. The decision will likely force the Blue Jays to play their home games in Buffalo, New York. The team was surely prepared for this possibility, but obviously it's not an ideal circumstance with the start of the season mere days away.

I know I'm apples and orangesing this, but the NBA bubble was totally clear in the last round of testing, and the MLS bubble has had three perfect rounds of testing in a row. I think it's at least worth a bit of optimism.
