I can sort of see where you feel like it's inevitable and you might as well get it over with and see what happens. I've had this thought when I was sick of worrying about it. Of course the logic doesn't really work when you think about it for two seconds.Arthur Dent wrote: ↑January 20 22, 3:34 pmI don’t get what the idea of that plan was supposed to be. Re: Coronavirus
Wish that was the message. It more or less should be. Instead, we’ve undermined confidence with recommendations to continue to avoid gatherings, mask, test, quarantine asymptomatic contacts, etc giving a false impression of high risk after vaccination.cardinalkarp wrote: ↑January 20 22, 12:28 pmThe message from the government has been get your shot and you’re good to go
That’s not correct. Vaccination does not suppress the immune system. It activates it. And there is no window of increased vulnerability. Protection starts increasing after getting your shot, reaching a maximum after around 14 days.cardinalkarp wrote: ↑January 20 22, 12:28 pmwhen it’s been shown that a person is most vulnerable the first couple weeks after getting the shot when the immune system is suppressed
This isn’t true either. Tracking typically splits people into unvaccinated (0 does), partially vaccinated (< 2 doses/1 for J&J or less than 14 days after final dose), vaccinated, or boosted. Partially vaccinated is much less deaths than unvaccinated.cardinalkarp wrote: ↑January 20 22, 12:28 pm…. So if people get the shots, then get COVID immediately after they go straight into the “unvaccinated” category.
This would be useful information, as people would then know….hey, I need to be VERY careful right after I get these shots.
In any case, people in the 14 window are not significant at this point as the rate of people just getting starting with vaccination is now low.

What government mandates needs to be rolled back?
Aside from a select few places which already required vaccinations, there's hardly any federal vaccine requirements. There's absolutely zero legitimate talk from the government about returning to a previously seen US flavored lockdown, let alone the real lockdowns like you see in China. There's no federal mask mandate aside from travel afaik. States and cities are making their own choices, with varying degrees of enforcement, but even then, it's far from a totalitarian hellscape. And all that is in the middle of the worst outbreak we've seen to date. Hell even school districts are staying open amidst outbreaks that would have previously shut them down if covid/schools hadn't become politicized.
News agencies are terrible about using fear to drive clicks and views. Either fear of the covid or fear of the government response and loss of liberties.

Re: Coronavirus
I actually think that there really is at least some logic to it re: omicron if you are vaccinated and maybe boosted. Given waning immunity and increased risk with age, now may be safer than later and natural omicron immunity plus vaccine immunity will likely be quite good.haltz wrote: ↑January 20 22, 3:48 pmI can sort of see where you feel like it's inevitable and you might as well get it over with and see what happens. But if unvaccinated and not a child … I don’t understand.

The intention was to get a vaccine passport or recovery pass or something, being in a band and not....Probably easier if I just quote the article.Arthur Dent wrote: ↑January 20 22, 3:34 pmI don’t get what the idea of that plan was supposed to be. Also, choking to death after back pain? Dead in 10 minutes....what a weird, weird story. Her son, Jan Rek, said she got infected on purpose when he and his father had the virus, so she could get a recovery pass to access certain venues.
The Czech Republic reported a record number of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.
Mr Rek and his father, who are both fully vaccinated, both caught Covid over Christmas. But he said his mother had decided not to stay away from them, preferring instead to expose herself to the virus.
"She should have isolated for a week because we tested positive. But she was with us the whole time," he said.
Proof of vaccination or recent infection from the virus is required in the Czech Republic to gain entry to many social and cultural venues, including cinemas, bars and cafes.
WHO warns Covid not over amid Europe case records
His mother was a member of one of the oldest Czech folk groups, Asonance. She had wanted to catch Covid so there would be fewer restrictions on her movement, Mr Rek explained.
Two days before she died, she wrote on social media that she was recovering: "Now there will be theatre, sauna, a concert".
On Sunday morning, the day she died, Ms Horka said she was feeling better and dressed to go for a walk. But then her back started hurting, so she went to lie down in her bedroom.
"In about 10 minutes it was all over," her son said. "She choked to death".
Although she was unvaccinated, Jan Rek stressed that his mother did not believe in some of the more bizarre conspiracy theories about Covid vaccines.
"Her philosophy was that she was more OK with the idea of catching Covid than getting vaccinated. Not that we would get microchipped or anything like that," he said.
There was no point in trying to discuss the issue with her as it would just get too emotional, he added. Instead, he hoped that by telling his story he could convince others to get vaccinated.

Ah. That’s a consequence of vaccine passports I’d never considered. I hope that’s an extremely rare plan.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑January 20 22, 4:07 pmThe intention was to get a vaccine passport or recovery pass or something

Re: Coronavirus
I'm still really struggling to understand all sorts of things here.
First her death:
She was fine, getting dressed to go for a walk. Then her back hurt so she laid down. Within minutes she had choked to death.
But also the flow of the article:
She choked to death from back pain. So the obvious takeaway is to get vaccinated?
I'm sorry, but that article is terribly written and I'd argue disingenuous without some medical opinion that covid actually caused her death. It may well have, she could have had a stroke or a heart attack caused by an embolism. She also could have been poisoned.
I think the real message is, get vaccinated so you don't get poisoned.

There was clearly a backup singer that had been taking this lady's place in the folk group Asonance. Now that she was about to be able to travel again, the backup singer poisoned her. Which leads to the obvious question. Where has Leroy been.

I have no insider knowledge, nor did I claim to. You picked out one phrase in a huge paragraph about how much people are exposed to Covid information or discussions throughout their day. Within the context of people being beat over the head with the same message, I don't think it's a stretch that hearing monotone voices give announcements about Covid while shopping for groceries is a little creepy. I said 1984esque because it sounds just like announcements from bad entities (you can choose Umbrella from Resident Evil movies if that makes you feel better), although the information is obviously not nefarious.Jocephus wrote: ↑January 20 22, 3:14 pmi guess amber alerts are orwellian too 'cause they go right to your phone!
anything can be anything when you are obsessed with conspiracy and fear.
and i can really do without the sanctimonious "if this doesn't creep you out it creeps me out". GTFO with that, like you have all the "real" knowledge of what's going on
