My firm’s receptionist has been on a ventilator for a week now. She’s about my age or younger (let’s say, 40). I learned today she’s unvaccinated. She was afraid to get it. She’s a good person and a valued part of our firm and we’re all trying to find hopeful signs.

She passed away this morning. Everyone I work with is crushed. She was such an optimistic, positive, kind and giving person. Ugh, maybe I'm going home.

Hope she wasn't afraid to die. Life sucks.

Been a while since I've posted in here, but glad to see it re-opened. I view this thread as one that can house the scientific discussions. Such as this article about a small sample size study, but one that builds off another study and precedes a larger study that is already underway:

Long Covid: Hidden lung damage spotted on scans

Some people with long Covid may have hidden damage to their lungs, a small pilot study in the UK suggests.

Scientists used a novel xenon gas scan method to pick up lung abnormalities not identified by routine scans. They focused on 11 people who had not required hospital care when they first caught Covid, but experienced long-lasting breathlessness after their initial infection.

A larger, more detailed study is under way to confirm the results. The work builds on an earlier study that looked at people who had been admitted to hospital with Covid.

Researchers say the findings shed some light on why breathlessness is so common in long Covid - though the reasons for feeling short of breath are often many and complex.

For someone like me who has been struggling mightily with the long last lung damage it's nice to get some more validation from a study like this. I've at times been pretty down because of it and wondering if it's just all in my head. This helps me believe it's not.

I had covid 3 weeks ago and i still have residual chest congestion and coughing. That's nothing compared to a lot of the long covid symptoms that are possible, but I'm still a bit dismayed about it.

I tested + two weeks ago. I only had a fever for a day. But I've had what amounts to a bad head cold the rest of that time. The gunk is relentless. And I also have brain fog that comes and goes. I was on a zoom call yesterday and mid-thought it was like a huge solar flare just scrambled all my internal circuits. I just stopped mid sentence and had to apologize to the people on the call. It took me probably a full minute to regain my train of thought and continue.
