I feel like Carlson and Edman are the two guys you can trade who will return back a player with term who’s more than a lottery ticket.

Yeah everyone acts like Noot getting ready to bust out as a superstar due to his exit velos, when Carlson is younger and slashes about the same in less ABs so far in 2023…

Carlson; 243/350/376, 5HRs 173ABs (high of 18 HRs in 2021)
Noot; 262/359/388, 6HRs 237ABs (high of 14 HRs on 2022)

I hope they keep Carlson, unless they are blown away with an offer.
Me too. Perhaps the real intent here is to showcase a healthy O’Neill before the deadline. I hope so because I’d rather keep Carlson.

I've been seeing this sentiment on Twitter, but what am I missing about Carlson not getting enough opportunities? This is coming from someone who still thinks Carlson will eventually have a break out, but I don't see how he hasn't gotten a chance.
He’s had the fewest ABs of any current OF in 2023…

Walker - 201 ABs (and he’s been up and down from Memphis)

Noot - 237 ABs (and he’s been hurt off/on in 2023)

Burleson - 185 ABs

Carlson - 173 ABs

And that’s not even counting the starts that Edman and Donovan have had over him in the OF

I don’t think so, as why upset the guy you’re going to keep in carlson if that’s your true intentions?

He was injured this year too though. And he got a lot of at bats in 2022 and 2021 though. In fact, he was 4th in at bats on the team in both years, only behind Edman, Goldy and Arenado in those years. It’s not as if they didn’t give him plenty of opportunities.

He’s talking about 2023

But if you want to bring up 2022 and 2021, he was pretty fantastic in 2021. If he plays like that, he’s one of the best CF in the entire league.

And even with a bad 2nd half in 2022 he still put up 2 WAR.

But to tell Carlson that O’Neill is back, and you’re out of a job is pretty puzzling, considering the way O’Neill has played even when healthy. But that’s par for the course for these 2023 cardinals and their statement and decisions.

And I’m not saying not trade him. I’m saying everyone should be on the block. Everyone.

I'm assuming that naming O'Neil as starter is just a showcase for him before the deadline.

the trade deadline is exactly 2 weeks from today...there just isn't enough time to showcase

he could go bananas the next 2 weeks and that's not going to change any teams opinion of him

and staying healthy for 2 weeks shows nothing either
