Trading prospects is part of how the Cardinals got to where they are today, even if I think two of the trades that backfired terribly (Ozuna/Arozarena) were rational at the time.

Padres are likely going to miss the POs and didn't win the pennant after going all-in on Soto.

I'm for trading prospects when it makes sense. Trading for Soto wasn't one of those times.

How far off are Graceffo, Hence, and McGreevy?

If those three could even be 3-4-5 starters (in any order of names), it makes the process of rebuilding the rotation that much easier. you’re still having to spend big bucks or trade great prospects if you want a #1 or #2 though.

I think we’re at least 2 to 3 years away from having a great rotation again.

And I’m aware that the idea of #1-#5 starters is antiquated. The point is, we could have some decent pitching depth while still lacking the game one of the playoffs ace

Arozarena was a prospect for prospect trade. Ozuna was the rare miss.

I also have no interest in trading with the rays. If they like one of your prospects, you should probably keep him. If they like Flaherty, it probably means we don’t know what the hell we’re doing and can’t fix him.

People are really running with this O’Neill-Carlson story. These things get sorted out. There’s no need to trade Carlson while his value is rock bottom. My guess is he stays.
