It would be nice to get a top 100 guy back, but the major leaguers are dogwater so can't really expect it.

My hot take is I'd rather prefer this season than another 85-win, bounced in the Wild Card crapfest.

It depends on how the 85-win team was/is constructed.

If it was like this year, then yeah, I'd prefer being awful.

If it was with younger players with a few in the rotation + Arenado/Goldschmidt, I can get behind an early PO exit.

The teams we’ve seen in recent years have stagnated. If it was their first year in the playoffs and I thought there was something to build upon, that’s different. Dewitt and Mo had basically taken greatness for granted

Those are the guys who can and should be playing outfield when they are on the field. Trading away one of those ensures that you have a bad outfielder on the field at all times.

I anticipate they stand pat.

I agree that trading players like Flaherty, Hicks and DeJong, who have been largely a hindrance to the team’s success the past 2-3 seasons, is fun.

Where do you put Walker then?

Walker, Gorman, Goldschmidt, Arenado get time at 1B, 3B, DH. Walker can also get spot starts in the corner outfield positions, depending on matchup.
