Something strange within me is drawn to the Hyundai Santa Cruz XRT. It’s the same genetic strain that made my dad love the Pontiac Aztec.

That’s not a bad option. Maybe reach out to Rad, if I’m remembering correctly he bought a Subaru (not sure if it was a Forester) a few years or so back.

Probably a better choice from a maintenance standpoint than the Hyundai. If you go the Hyundai route you have to be hyper vigilant about oil levels, you need frequent oil changes (3-5k miles tops) and you have to stay on top of the timing system.

Not sure why I hadn’t thought of it earlier, but what about a used Toyota 4 Runner. If you can find one that’s a handful of years old, those models are freakin’ bulletproof.

I don't know if this should go here, rants, or some thread about getting old or what, but I had some serious nostalgia Saturday. My Wife and I had an impromptu date night to Hannibal, Missouri and since it was a date night and I was feeling good we took the Viper. It was such a beautiful night that we just did a little cruising after dinner. Finally before leaving I got gas at the one gas station that actually sells good high octane stuff.

I don't know if you have ever seen Bob Seger's "Like a Rock" music video but it felt like that. As I'm pumping three cars come into get gas as well. Two Fox Body Mustangs and a late model Camaro. All modified, all with drag radials on. They were going racing. One of the Fox body guys is right at the pump next to me and we start talking cars. It was a lot of fun, brought me back 20 years ago when I did things young and dumb guys do with their cars late on a Saturday night. He told me "you should follow us, come have some fun." I told him the drag radials meant that they were a little more serious about their fun than I was at this age and I doubted my stock Viper would keep up with them. He laughed and the told me about a meet up they are having in a couple weeks and said I should come hang out. Sounds fun, we just might do that.

I miss that Saturday night excitement. The thrill of the hunt, the comradery, living a little like there is no tomorrow. Growing up has it's perks, but I miss being young sometimes.
