I like Saggese as an IF bench option but I have no interest in watching him in the OF. Fermin hits for average but no power either. There shouldn't be room for both Saggese and Fermin, gotta be one or the other. If I'm going to watch poor defense, I'd rather watch Velaquez have a chance to find his power stroke.

I don't think either one of those guys will be main RH option as the bench OF. I think the Cards have been aggressive in hitting the wire and finding players that can't be rostered and will continue to do so. I think someone like Luis Matos with a decent prospect pedigree is going to get squeezed with a lack of minor league options and will end up coming over.

It would be quite silly to have Wetherholt up to start the season and give up his seventh year of control in a year they aren't even trying to compete.

Fans have many times made it clear they don't agree and want something to be excited about, but from a pure "corporate management" lens, that's how you'd play it.

The small chance of a draft pick isn't near enough incentive to my eyes.
