I like Saggese as an IF bench option but I have no interest in watching him in the OF. Fermin hits for average but no power either. There shouldn't be room for both Saggese and Fermin, gotta be one or the other. If I'm going to watch poor defense, I'd rather watch Velaquez have a chance to find his power stroke.
I don't think either one of those guys will be main RH option as the bench OF. I think the Cards have been aggressive in hitting the wire and finding players that can't be rostered and will continue to do so. I think someone like Luis Matos with a decent prospect pedigree is going to get squeezed with a lack of minor league options and will end up coming over.

Zak Kent is our Michael Siani. It wasn't long ago that Michael Siani was our Michael Siani. I guess that's progress?

I really don't understand the point of this when we already have Saggese and Fermin on the roster and could have used an outfielder. Maybe there was an injury concern?

Yes, don’t get this one either

You know he can’t hit, and is older at 32. But he is RH? (But so are saggese and Fermín)

Only thing I can think is, they’re possibly keeping JJ in the minors again/dont want to waste a year of control in a year we’re going be terrible/rebuilding?

It would be quite silly to have Wetherholt up to start the season and give up his seventh year of control in a year they aren't even trying to compete.

Fans have many times made it clear they don't agree and want something to be excited about, but from a pure "corporate management" lens, that's how you'd play it.

The small chance of a draft pick isn't near enough incentive to my eyes.
