Pallante is atrocious. It’s a miracle he ever gets through five innings.

Relief pitching is one place you can build by throwing [expletive] at the wall and see what sticks. Bloom’s returns haven’t been good through 10 games.

Agreed. They should have spent some money on huge one year deals for top relievers to flip at the deadline.ghostrunner wrote: ↑April 6 26, 7:37 pmReally. A merely decent pen and this team is 6-3 or 7-2 after tonight. Instead of I assume 4-5.
O'Brien, Romero, and Graceffo should be high leverage relievers. Stanek, Soriano, Bruihl, and Shuster are fixer uppers to flip at the deadline... so whatever. If one gets bad enough the Cards can DFA.
Svanson should go down to work out some things. Call up Fitts. Fitts can be long relief and ready to take over as a starter.

I’m wondering if Hence and Mathews shouldn’t just come on up. Start doing openers. 6 man rotation and have them go longer. I’m just blabbing and know less about pitching than anyone but this is tougher than if the offense sucked too. Walker’s hitting, Scott’s making things happen, and it’s meaningless.
Pallante isn’t even a concern. A few runs allowed through 5 feels like a gift.

To be anything better than a bad team you need 4-5 relievers in the trust tree. Right now they are at 2.5 (OB, Romero, and Graceffo - who has benefitted from some luck). It takes 3-4 relievers a night to get through these games and can't go three games in a row. So time to rotate in some fresh arms and hope you get lucky/hot.

To be fair to the Cardinals, they don't want the bullpen to be too good because we don't want to make any playoffs this year. That space has been leased out in October.

Was just a frustrating loss. Took away the excitement of 2 clutch homers and a nice squeeze bunt.
I guess you gotta give the Nats credit for earning their runs. At least we didn't walk them.

I might have laughed a little too hard at this.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑April 7 26, 9:12 amTo be fair to the Cardinals, they don't want the bullpen to be too good because we don't want to make any playoffs this year. That space has been leased out in October.

Sucks that Svanson has been so bad. I thought he was at least going to be a decent reliever and possibly a closer at some point. Had a lot of bad luck the first game, but since then he’s just been bad.
