Holy fork! I knew there was a lot of fan speculation, but I figured that was just because Kyrou was the whipping boy. Geez.

So uh, is our second line Neighbors-Dvo-Buch? Because if so, yikes for next year.

Returns feels a little light/sold low in my gut, but I admittedly know nothing about the two prospects except what I’ve scanned over the last 10 minutes. Getting 16 for Kyrou when we got 15 for Faulk (even if we expected it to be mid 20s) feels meh. I just wonder if we are going to see Kyrou pot 150 goals over the next 5 years while we complain about the lack of secondary scoring.

Then again, we’ll see what happens. I didn’t expect us to contend for at least a year. There is time to find another scoring winger.
McMichael isn’t a prospect; he’s a C that had the same amount of points as kyrou did last year; and is younger; and had a down year himself as did kyrou. He’s also a complete 200 foot player (he needs to work on face offs however). He’ll be the 2C and give DVO time to season more as the 3c. Bush had a meh year but was still better than kyrous to be the RW on the 2nd line.

If it would have been an even trade between those 2, I would’ve been ok-ish as I just don’t see kyrou being a complete player ever. And to get the #16, and Gastrin, who I’ve read is another 200 foot player/C in the Swedish league also?

This is a slam dunk/awesome trade IMO

Once carbo is ready sometime next year, I can easily see replacing kyrou’s production

Also Chicago acquired Byram and Greenway from Buffalo. Also Ottawa got Eklund from San Jose.

One of the bigger non trade deadline trade days than I can remember otoh in a long time.

EDIT: Oh and Calgary got Nemec for a lot.

Crazy day.

I mean maybe, but if he’s that bad on faceoffs, is he basically a winger?

Kyrou has had two years with less goals than McM’s career high. Last year and JK’s rookie year. MCM’s other years he had goals in the teens. He’s younger, but it appears to me (and I admit I know little of McM), but it appears that we swapped upside for floor, when we desperately need upside.

I know the writing appeared to be on the wall. I’m willing to wait and see what other moves are made. But in the short and medium term, barring other moves, we have very little secondary scoring. Basically a killer first line and a couple third lines, and a bad 4th line.

But again, that’s at the moment…

I think Kyrou was done in StL one way or another. I would have been shocked to see him ever top 60 points again in a season, and at anything less he’s always going to be a disappointment in fans’ eyes.

McMichael scored 57 points as a 24 year old in 24-25, primarily playing wing. That’s a second line wing at least. Plus you get a first round pick. We were not going to get a 2C for Kyrou straight up. I don’t think it is a downfall of this deal that we still don’t have one, despite having brought back a top-6 winger plus a 1st, and saved money in the process.

This is going to be a fun draft.

I mean maybe. It just seems odd that the logic on kyrou is “he had a down year, so this is who he is (despite the previous 5 years scoring 14, (55 games rookie year) 27, 37, 31 and 36 goals), whereas the logic in mcm seems to be, “he scored 26 goals one time so he’ll effectively replace kyrou’s production. Ignore the down year.” (Despite him scoring (18, 26 and 14 goals in his 3 seasons).

Hey there could be more to kyrou’s decline than I know and more about what held back mcm than I know. But the difference does not appear insignificant to me just looking at the numbers. To me we have a tweener 2/3 c/w, and gave up a 1/2 w on a great deal.

My gut says that for mcm to really be a 2nd line w/c, we are going to need a legit 1/2 w/c… which is what we just traded away.

I just generally believe that the team who gets the best overall player generally wins the trade.

But again, we’ll see. In a vacuum, I don’t like it, I’d just hold onto kyrou. With other moves, maybe.

But McMichael also comes with the #16 overall pick in what is projected to be a really good draft year. Sure there are absolutely no guarantees that we’ll nab a future top-6 forward with that one pick, but with four total picks in the first 29 I am really liking our chances for getting at least two really good players.

And who knows - maybe there’s a team in the top 5 that would rather draft 2-3 times later in the round, and we still have 2-3 total picks in the first/second rounds.

Oh yeah, absolutely. If we use these assets to move up to draft a top guy or acquire a top 6 (knies?) then this move sits better with me.

And honestly if mcm can stick as a middle 6 c and get himself to where he’s roughly a coin flip on face offs (I have no clue how teachable that skill is or isn’t) then the trade sits better with me.

The next few days should be interesting.

Apparently Lebrun tweeted that the blues and rangers have offers in on mctavish. Another tweener middle 6 c but at least he’s a c. $7m for half a decade though.

Idk. Depends on what we are offering I guess.
