Jordan Walker - NL All Star

Post by CardsofSTL »

The first Cardinals team in several generations to begin the season without an All-Star now has one who the club hopes leads its next generation.

Jordan Walker was named Saturday evening to the National League roster for the upcoming All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Manager Oli Marmol gathered the team to reveal the honor, and several players, including Walker, said there were tears.

“I was on the verge of tears and still am,” Walker said. “It will be a moment I never forget. He talked about the journey to get there. I can’t really describe how it feels.”

“I shed a tear myself,” said shortstop Masyn Winn.

As part of introducing Walker as the team’s lone representative on the roster for the All-Star Game, Marmol mentioned how it was a symbol “of not just three months of production, but three years of perseverance.”

I'm very happy for him, and I'll gladly eat the crow on this.......Yeah, I had started the thread last year where I'd admittedly given up on him. (link below) I now give him huge credit for hanging tough and proving me wrong. Congrats to him!

Good thing there’s a mandatory representative or the Cardinals would have gotten shut out. Happy for Walker. He’s been through the wringer. Sad for Wetherholt. Confused by his lack of respect.

JJ feels like the biggest snub to me. Maybe I am a homer but his performance this season is certainly worthy.

When the Rookie of the Year voting comes in and someone picks that d-bag Sal Stewart over JJ because he made the All Star Game I am going to punch them in the sack.

I kinda want to see him in the home run derby, but I also would like for him to not be in the home run derby. Conundrum.

Definitely not being a homer. He's 6th in fWAR in all of baseball. Him not making it is kinda ridiculous.

I've gotten to where I just don't care about this much. I voted once but could've voted more, and only did that to throw one in for Walker. I did vote for Wetherholt, Burly and Herrera too, but whatever. I think if a player isn't on one of a few specific teams it's going to take time for word to spread, or they need to go on a tear. JJ's just been consistently great. They start voting on this after 2 months of play, so that's another issue.
