Contact percentage of 66.6% in High-A. Five major league hitters are that low on contact % and it's down vs last year at the same level. He's basically swinging more often at strikes and making better impact on the ball when he makes contact (a good thing to do, of course).
Odds are he ends up too whiff prone to be a major league starter, but may be able to contribute as a bench player with his legs/glove/pop. Nice tools to work with on a non-headliner piece of a trade.
Cardinals signed 8th round pick #234 LHP Luke Harrison and assigned him to FCL Cardinals yesterday. He was a Texas Longhorn who had Tommy John in 2023. Prior to the surgery he was used mostly as a reliever but had been a starter in his last two seasons.
The nice thing is the depth and puzzle pieces all matriculating to the upper levels at this point to create a window in 2028.
We will still probably be mid next year, but 2028 has a chance to have enough depth and cheap labor to allow for one or two big ticket moves to gain the necessary 4-5 wins to get into contention outside of expected growth from the young core.
