Sonny Gray: 6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 4K, 1HR, 2.79ERA.
Sonny posted a QS, but the Red Sox offense didn’t pick him up.
Willson Contreras: 3AB, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K, .283AVG, .921OPS.
There was a bizarre play in the 7th inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made a catch that looked like a clean catch but was a trap, and the scoreboard showed 2 outs, even though there was only 1. On the next play, Ceddanne Rafaela flied out, Nick Sogard ran to second and the Blue Jays threw to first to double off Sogard. Both teams thought it was the third out and left the field. Anthony Siegler, on third, did not tag up, but crossed home plate. There was a twenty minute delay including the umpire crew chief asking New York to review the rule. Finally, the crew chief announced that according to Rule 5.09(c)(3). Siegler’s run counted, making the score Toronto 2, Boston 1.
