Rodriguez is the best hitting prospect they’ve had in a long time. They really need him to be a star.
Not just a long time? Maybe ever?

his numbers are even better than Pujols, and he's younger than Pujols was

(not saying he's going to be Pujols)
He's not performing to the level Tavares did and he doesn't have the carrying tools. He's a good prospect, but I would caution against over projecting him.

86% contact rate vs. 76% for Rodriguez. Tavares had better exit velo's and batted ball profiles as well.

Both similar ages at AA.
he was about 7 months older than Rodriguez is at AA, and Rodriguez has better OBP and SLG than Tavares had at Springfield

I have no idea what he will become in MLB, but he's def our best hitting prospect in quite sometime maybe ever IMO

and it really sucks we never got to see just what Tavares could have been...like really sucks
Rainiel has a 149 wRC+ to Tavares' 155, who did it over 200 more plate appearances. The run environments and baseballs were different (Rainiel is playing in a famously juiced ball era for AA). It's why with slightly lesser counting stats, Tavares has a 6% better wRC+ in the same ballpark.

Rainiel has a 19.7% K% to Tavares' 10.5%.

Tavares had better exit velo's.

Tavares made far better contact %. Tavares had a swinging strike % of 6.5%! Rainiel is at 12.5%. Contact % is kind of becoming the shorthand version for hitters as K% - BB% for pitchers and Tavares was elite at contact while maintaining his power.

Rainiel has a better batted ball profile. That's not nothing, but it's the only thing he had over Tavares.

Tavares made far better contact, played better defense, far more athletic, ran bases better, actually hit better, and was a lefthanded hitter.

These debates always make it sound like A = Good and B = Bad and I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying Tavares was a better hitting prospect and easily a better prospect overall.

Do I see Rainiel as a 60 rather than a 55? Probably. I think Tavares was just more of a 60+ or 65.

I haven't let myself get over excited on any hitting prospect since Hector Cruz.

Taveras really would have been an all-star. Instead he killed himself and a young woman. Just so sad all around.

I don't know more about pitching than ANYONE, but those numbers look good.

I think the reliever we got in that trade has also been lights out. Seems like why not give him a shot in the bigs, since our bullpen desperately needs anything.

still get a PTBNL also

and Noot has been just awful for AZ

I like Noot, so hate to see that, but a great trade it seems by Bloom
