I’m not sure why people rarely mention that expanded playoffs have made the playoffs far less compelling.
I think that the MLB playoffs are compelling if your team is in it, and sticks around for a while.

Other than that, no one gives a [expletive].

I don’t know that this has changed in the last 30+ years.

This isn’t even unique to baseball. I feel like this happens for all non-NFL (and maybe NCAA basketball?) sports.

I've come to enjoy them all the way through. I don't watch every game or all of any game but it's become pretty fun for me to tune in occasionally and/or follow on Bluesky the last couple years. Big sports events are among the handful of things I think social media is still good for.

Expanded playoffs have allowed teams to not try as hard to build great rosters, so we get this garbage where basically everyone who is over .500 qualifies. Then it takes forever with 100 off days.

I think the wild card stuff has watered it down a bit. I would go back to 1 wild card that plays in the divisional round.

But instead we are probably going to end up with eight divisions and no leagues at all or some dumb crap.
