Frankly, I think the boys at BP have been waiting for years for the Cards to fail - they dislike TLR that much, and even more so since we've had seven stright winning seasons, won 6 of 7 division titles (yes, I count 2001), 2 pennants, and a World Series - and I'm looking forward to their having several *more* years to wait for their childish satisfaction.
I've been a subscriber for years, and never noticed an anti-Cardinal sentiment, or anti-LaRussa for that matter.
I've definitely noticed it. Mind you, I don't think it's irrational. They have their reasons. But they constantly harp on TLR's mixing and matching and the emphasis he places on things like individual hitter/pitcher histories (of course, screaming that it cries small sample size). And, of course, TLR and Jocketty don't do things the way a statistics-heavy team would, which often gets them knocked by the BP crew.

The Cardinals and Angels are often whipping boys of BP. Again- that's not to say it's irrational. But those two particular teams do things in a way that BP doesn't like so they earn their scorn.

I know that, I'm just saying as a mental exercise it makes sense - to me anyway.

Yeah, they do poke fun at TLR's mixing and matching now that you mention it. I guess because I for one wish he would throw all of those damn note cards away, I didn't notice that.

But I can remember many times where they have made statements pretty flattering. Once last year I remember Karl saying something like "This is an organization that gets it right on so many levels" on her transaction analysis report. I can remember several other statements like that from her, and if you read all of her reports you know that her bread and butter is pretty much trashing teams. The Kennedy signing was almost universally proclaimed as the deal of the year over there.

The thing is, I doubt Silver knows it, or at the very least, I doubt he cares enough to go that deeply into the matter. While Silver is a bright fellow, largely free of dogmatism, this is the kind of thing that convinced me to give up my BPro subscription. Telling me something is lacking in the Cardinals lineup isn't particularly insightful for an old statboy like me; telling me why they went the way they did would be insightful however.

You have any examples? I mean, when I say "I don't notice any anti-Cardinals sentiment or Larussa", I mean they don't go out of their way to be negative towards them, or come up with irrational conclusions to put them in a bad light. I have never noticed that. They seem to be fair in all their evaluations, though one could say they are more harsh on say teams like the Pirates, do to their front office being so inept. And again, that's not really anti-Pirates, because it would be directed at any team that is run poorly. Most fans think someone is picking on their team.

I remember they was ranking the prospects and Kevin Goldstein said he got an email saying "You're a Yankee cheerleader blah blah blah, you're obviously bias towards them" (verbatim) then 3 minutes later it's a Yankee fans saying he's bias towards the Mets. LOL.

Same thing with Joe Buck in the World Series.
