Has there ever been a more hollow .292?

Oh, and you also asked me about how long they have to keep up these paces to start to become worried / encouraged.

How long? I don't know... but longer than this.

Example: Abraham Nunez is a career .245 hitter; his career OPS is .635.

He had a decent year for St. Louis in 2005; notably, he had a few really good months. In particular, he hit .364 spanning June / July that year. His OPS during that time was hovering right around .900; couldn't you have argued, "hey, Nunez is playing above his head, but maybe he has turned the corner and become a solid everyday player?" You can if you want to believe Molina's start: Molina has 109 at-bats this season. Nunez had 129 during his span.

I don't think many people think Molina is the next Musial just because he's hitting .292...we're not daft, we know the numbers are relatively hollow and very likely to come back down.

I think the analysis in the original post is spot on...but, as others have pointed out, the timing and title are fueling the negative reception more than the anaylsis. Molina is perhaps the only hitter on the team who's outproducing what would have been expected of him coming into this year. It seems, well...gratuitous at this point to create yet another "pessimistic" thread about one of the few (relatively speaking, anyway) "bright spots" when there are so many other glaring disappointments staring us all in the face.

Hollow or not, he's also been better than about anyone on the team hitting in critical situations over the past couple weeks. To me, that's not hollow.

The only reason someone would be compelled to post a negative thread about him this week is because someone is worried that all of the bashing they've done in the past, at the moment, looks foolish. Are there Cardinal fans that are out there rooting against Yadi just so they won't have to worry about explaining all of their negativity towards him?

Here's the funny thing about this season so far...you could almost safely argue that every player on this team is performing quite differently than the consensus thought heading into the season.
1. B Looper is the Ace of the staff.
2. Wainwright and Reyes are both struggling.
3. Thompson is our second best starter.
4. Molina leads the team in hitting.
5. Rolen and Albert have been worthless. Talk about empty stats. Albert's 4-4 and all of those walks proved useless to the team this week.
6. Duncan is a way better fielder than anyone imagined.
7. Duncan was not playing way over his head in 2006.
8. Izzy is back, against what anyone could have guessed.

GREAT list.

Don't forget how everyone thought Kip Wells would turn it around, and he's useless.

I knew there were more.

Also, Rick Ankiel is arguably the most productive hitter in the organization. WTF is going on?

No one thought he would ever go on the DL either.

Oh, wait...

Yep. Me, I'd be happy getting our starters who have seven losses or more a win or three. And that's going to take more offensive effort than Yadi can provide.

Vindication is nice(I knew he could hit close to these kind of results and would, sooner or later), but I'd rather Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds be hitting more than he is and unfortunately they're nowhere near close to what he's doing.

Yes, we can always take comfort in the predictability of that.
