Jocketty kept a good public face, but had to be irritated DeWitt wouldn't give him the resources, after a World Series victory, to put his usual winning team on the field. He may have gotten the felling this would repeat this offseason, got pissed, and they had to let him go.
There is some room to debate this. The Cards did make competitive offers for Schmidt (3/42), Batista (3/20), Wolf (2/17 I think), and Pettite (?) this offseason. They simply got outbid / Walt underestimated the market.

So I don't completely buy the "Walt's pissed because he didn't have enough payroll resources" theory. He was clearly pissed, but methinks it had at least as much to do with Luhnow as it did with payroll.

I think I'm going to need a little more credibility than a "rumor up in Chicago."
Man Cow is the source.
Well crap. Our worst nightmare is all but true then.

According to Bernie, Tony likes Mozeliak and Luhnow does too. Who knows, maybe he stays. He didn't always work for Walt.

For all we know now, Tony and Walt had an issue. I'd find it hard to believe, but anything seems possible now.

I just stepped outside and heard the rumor too, actually. Then the guy asked me if I had any change.

I don't buy it at all.

Like it or not, this ship has changed sails as of late last year with the promo of Luhnow. If I look at it at the 500 foot view I don't like it - despite a few head scratchers WJ has been the man in charge of one of the most successful periods in Cardinal history. If I look at it from the 50,000 foot view though, I don't know if it looks so bad. The sleeping giant to the north is rumbling, and if she ever wakes up for good she could pose some problems if we just follow the status quo. Maybe the way to deal with her is a Moneyball approach - something Luhnow fits the model for and WJ (and TLR) don't.

Someone is employing him again?

I was in Chicago earlier and a bunch of kids pounding on buckets were talking about it.

That would be a nightmare.
Walt don't make all Card fans turn against you.

This seriously devalues my boast that I rubbed elbows with Walt at the World Series Gala.
