My impression is that McCain has gone extremely
negative, and it's paid off well for him. Obama's
failure is the failure of all Democrats for the last
ten years: they go on the defensive rather than
throwing haymakers.

I was speaking with my brother a month ago, who is convinced Obama will lose. But my brother's point was an interesting one--Republicans can win with negative campaigns, but Democrats have to win the "good governance" argument to get elected.

Take it for what it's worth. But at the end of the day, Obama has to convince voters that he will be a good manager--which McCain's "celebrity" ads have been designed to question.

I think that's really a core issue for a lot of people who might find themselves in the swing vote category. McCain has been their longtime self-proclaimed champion. Obama saddled himself with the true democratic left in the primaries and has had and will continue to have trouble (imo) convincing avg. joe middle-of-the-roader that he's their candidate.

They've got a pretty strong idea of who McCain is from his long history in the spotlight, and the "maverick" mantra (real or perceived) has stuck. They really haven't seen Obama do much more than make speeches.


(No offense intended to Obama fans, just trying to capture what I think casual followers of politics who fall in the true independent/fence-sitter mindset could think.)

Not really. According to that graph both plans affect me about the same.
