You don't understand why people support McCain over Obama? If you truly believe that, I have no idea why you ever registered as a Republican. Not that I really believe that anyway.Socnorb11 wrote:I'm getting old........ probably skimmed right over the Obama lies without reading them. I wouldn't mind reading them again. Really. Convince me that I shouldn't vote for Obama. Because I'm a registered Republican who is more than willing to be objective. Lay it all out there.stlouie_lipp wrote:Actually, I lean towards Obama but am really being put off by his supporters who think anyone who doesn't support him is an idiot, like you do. And I am pretty sure some of his lies were posted about a 100 pages ago.Socnorb11 wrote:You can say you're undecided, but it's pretty clear which way you lean.stlouie_lipp wrote:LOL...what a joke. Both sides are smearing and lying and neither is taking the high road. It's called politics. But you Obama supporters keep thinking you're better than everyone.Socnorb11 wrote:Enough is enough, man. McCain and his cronies have done nothing but smear & lie about Obama since this thing started. Obama has tried the high road.
Again, for the record, I am an independent, undecided voter who is trying to cut through the BS that flows from both sides.
Go ahead and post the Obama lies. Nobody's stopping any of you.
I didn't call anybody an idiot. But I do think that the McCain campaign has been the most transparent one in the history of politics, and it's hard for me to fathom that people still ride tht train.

Its funny how "tribal" politics are. I consider myself a moderate, but am disgusted with where the right has taken us, thus am leaning more democrat. Most people I know, however, are steadfast republican. Just as Obama people are dumbfounded by those supporting McCain, the McCain people don't understand the Obama popularity.lukethedrifter wrote:
And you honestly feel that McCain's supporters don't have total disdain for Obama and his followers? You clearly don't work with the same people I work with, don't listen to the same radio programs I hear, don't read the same blogs I read.
Anyway - here's what my conservative friends and family (and yes, they are still my friends) dislike about Obama - keep in mind these are generally good rational people, not the type to be overtly hung up on race and Bill Clinton's affair etc -
They don't care for the talk about "free health care and college for all." Most of them see the dems as a return to "Tax and spend." or socialism. That and the drilling.
Personally, I don't feel this assessment is fair. GOP rule has been worse than the dems with spending and fiscal stewardship of the country. Especially considering their misguided social program called the Iraq War. But the imagery is so different. Thus, someone like Palin, who was all in favor of pork barrel, can phony it up the other way and people buy it.
This is the misconception that Obama needs to combat. Universal health care and free tuition (maybe not his exact words) aren't realistic currently and he shouldn't be touting it. He loses more voters with this comment than he gains. Maybe he should just propose restoring college loan and grant programs to prior levels, or reinstate funding of the Chips program (health insur for poor kids). Walk before you run.
I hope some of my rational conservative/moderate friends can cut thru all the campaign BS and see things clearly. I believe Obama will win then.

This is sort of where I am. I'm socially liberal already, but that stuff seems to take care of itself due to cultural influences. So i've often voted for Republicans due to small government/fiscal issues. But if they can't deliver on the small government or cut spending, then what's the point? Clinton actually did a decent job on that front.Freed Roger wrote:Its funny how "tribal" politics are. Attaboy. If things aren't going your way, just call the other guy a liar. THAT is why I'm a registered Republican who will vote for Obama.
If you don't believe me and you want to take the time, dig up some of my posts on this very board from 3-4 months ago.
No, I don't understand why reasonable people would back McCain. Either you liked him 8 years ago, or you like him now. Can't be both. I liked him 8 years ago.

I back McCain because I despise Liberalism. Period. I don't like McCain. There's nothing that would even make me vote for a Democrat again.
And you're voting for Obama because I called you a liar. As I said yesterday, don't let the door hit ya. Oh, and I saw your donation yesterday and raised it.

Seriously, would you just chill the [expletive] out for once? I'm not trying to start anything, but could you pull the stick out for one [expletive] day and just stop engaging in constant banter? I've never seen you actually discuss issues. I've never seen you discuss economy, immigration, health care, crime, anything. Just abortion and how Obama is so mean to everyone and liberals are scum. If you're so enraged by hippie liberals, why even [expletive] post here? The mods are sick and tired of the arguing, everyone is sick and tired of the arguing and you keep doing [expletive] that is going to get what could be a very, very good thread locked.BW23 wrote:I back McCain because I despise Liberalism. Not all Republicans listen to Rush. I personally think he's a huge d-bag.
