Obama +7 in the new Pennsylvania Daily Tracking poll by Morning Call.
McCain +1 on SurveyUSA's poll of Florida.

I think the low expectations laid out for her can only help her. That's quite a minefield Biden has to negotiate. Palin's popularity is purely emotional. She'd really have to say something horrible to lose ground. Anything else, given expectations, will be a win.pop_haines wrote:I'm starting to wonder if Palin survives the week.
I would've thought the Republicans have done her a disservice sequestering her, but what little she has said to the media seems to have bolstered her supporters; that mean media machine is picking on her. I think the Republicans should say she is being kept hidden in undisclosed locations so she can be used to it when she becomes vice-president!

I don't see how he can drop her now.
He's got the base riled up with her. Dropping her angers them.
Dropping her admits horrible judgment in picking her in the first place. Doing so this close to the election would be something he couldn't recover from.

She has to. Despite of all the negatives, she has done more positives for the campaign than negatives.pop_haines wrote:I'm starting to wonder if Palin survives the week.
She didn't cause the economic crisis, or McCain's "fundamentals", "fire the SEC", suspend the campaign, his constipation demeanor during the debate, or hiding her.
If McCain would've picked Palwenty, Lieberman, or Ridge, he would be in worse shape now. Obviously Romney or Huckabee look better but their strategy was sway women voters and find a captivating conservative who appeals to evangelical crowd.

I don't see the minefield, be civil towards Palin and attack McCain at every junction. Biden has to turn this into a debate of issues and allow Palin to dictate the conversaion like Obama did with McCain with the economy as it went from a trillion dollar problem surrounding the economy to 18 billion surrounding earmarks.

I agree with that, but I think they have zero interest in losing her. If they wanted to drop her without losing face they could stop all the meddling they are doing in the "troopergate" investigation. They should not only let it go on, they should speed it up. Then ask her to step down as VP candidate and McCain could pick someone else. It'd have to be Huckabee or someone that ranks high with the base, though.clevername wrote:I don't see how he can drop her now.

For all intents and purposes though, Liberman is essentially his VP, just not in title. I haven't seen those two apart in months.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. Palin/McCain: The Thread
I saw the earmark discussion as a negative for Obama. That's one of the cornerstones of the McCain campaign - govenment waste. If Obama had dicated the economic discussion they should have been talking about the high price of gasoline, the number of foreclosures, the cost of Americans' grocery bills going up while their paychecks level out or falls. Obama needed to talk about "kitchen table" issues that were caused by the Bush administration, not earmarks.UK wrote:KyCardinalFan wrote:I think the low expectations laid out for her can only help her. Biden must make sure he does not bully Palin, act condescendingly, get a point across without being too cerebral and watch his body language. Also, he is expected to win so anything less is a loss. It will be a minefield.

I would really like to find out just who these 37 percent are. It's like saying 2 out of 5 dentists recommend grinding sugar in your teeth.PujolJunkie wrote:http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... all_issues

Re: Obama/Biden vs. Palin/McCain: The Thread
He won't bully her, while I doubt he would ignore her like McCain did to Obama, he'll be aggressive towards McCain. Palin will attack Obama well also, but the difference will come when defending their own party as Biden will be more direct and Palin will be more idealistic and that's where Biden will win the debate.KyCardinalFan wrote:I saw the earmark discussion as a negative for Obama.
