You know, if Barack Obama was running on a platform of bombing the Pentagon to get us out of Vietnam, you'd have a very interesting point.

No my point is that with the Democrats hatred of Bush and blaming him for everything, I find it funny how they say McCain is the same, but actually wanted him as their Vice President.

That's a pretty gross generalization. One time for 3 seconds on CNN, they said that Kerry was considering McCain as a running mate does not = every democrat wanted McCain as Kerry's running mate.

It was a little more than that

I don't think McCain was ever seriously considered. Additionally, in the last 8 years has moved much further to the right. His voting record and views on major issues supports this.

Not only that, but McCain isn't exactly the same guy that he was 4 years ago.

That changes nothing. John Kerry making overtures to John McCain about being a VP does not = every democrat wanted McCain as Kerry's running mate

ghostrunner wrote:So about this Ayers thing - is there anyone voting for Obama who is troubled by it, or by Obama's accounting of their relationship? Just asking out of pure curiosity. It does seem true that Ayers hasn't really disavowed his past. He wasn't convicted of anything but he was part of a group that through it's actions could have or may have brought harm to other people.

Is it okay to work with people like that if it means good things get done? Do the ends justify the means? Or do most think we don't have a clear enough picture of how closely they worked, and what Obama knew (and when) about Ayers. Or do you think Ayers past isn't that bad to start with?
If Ayers matters in this campaign, then Charles Keating matters twice as much.

In fact, neither matters.

The Republicans resorting to riffling through Obama's closet is a sign of desparation, IMO. It is also a vestige of conservative party preoccupation with morals. If they really want to find the witch to burn at the stake, they should go look in the Oval Office.

++. To get the nomination and the base, McCain has had to (at least publicly) take positions more in line with Bush doctrine. 4 years ago he was pro choice, or at least not in favor of stocking the court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Now, he is pro life and wants the decision overturned.

4 years ago McCain said that the ultra right wing pastors who tell politicians what to do were forces of evil. Now, he does photo ops hugging Hagee, etc.
