First off, lol @ "Essex Man." This is our Joe Sixpack. There's an entire category of jokes in England about women from Essex because of their stereotypes as huge sluts.

What's the difference between an Essex girl and a limousine? Not everyone's been in a limousine.

What's the difference between an Essex girl and a Cadbury's Cream Egg? You have to pay 20p to lick out a Cadbury's Cream Egg.

It's an interesting article. But before we pronounce the GOP dead let's see if Obama actually wins this election. That said, they do have major problems and I think more challenges ahead than the Tories. Going forward, do they try to divorce themselves from the religious right? This election makes it clear that there are two halves of the GOP that look down on each other, and the McCain/Palin ticket demonstrates that. What an odd couple they make. It looks increasingly like a marriage of convenience. If Obama wins on a platform of inclusion and "togetherness" what does that mean for the future of the kind of wedge issues the republicans were so fond of campaigning on?

In addition to that there seems to be a looming intellectual crisis for the party. If one half of the party worships a wrathful God, the other half worships the free market. Yet here we are, under a GOP administration, nationalizing the banking industry. The statements pertaining to this from McCain and his surrogates these days are truly nonsensical. In one breath they will extol the virtues of small government, fiscal conservatism, and minimal regulation but in the next breath propose buying $300 billion worth of troubled mortgages!

I think what the GOP is going to have to do is move to the left. Most conservatives in the UK would have no place in the conservative party here. We've got a GOP vice presidential candidate saying global warming isn't man-made for christ's sake! This kind of anti-intellectualism is not going to work in the 21st century (I hope). There are too many large groups of people who want nothing to do with the GOP, which seems to have become the party of religious fundamentalists and embittered free marketeers. Each of those archetypes are looking increasingly anachronistic.

His popularity is mystifying to me. I only listen to try and understand that very thing. I used to tune in years ago when I delivered flowers and couldn't stomach any of the music stations. He's not funny, has no interesting guests (seldom any guests for that matter), takes no challenging phone calls. When he does take an opposing call, it's some whackjob he can then analyze and make fun of for the next hour.

Hannity is a bit more reasoned and measured, and open to discussion. Still longing for the 1950's though.

I'll admit Beck is funny on occasion, but otherwise a blowhard. He's crass, but still complains about the coarsening of the culture.

When I've tuned to any of them lately, it's Ayers 24/7.

Dennis Miller is the only one I listen to regularly. It's really a different kind of show though. He's more of a pro-Iraq libertarian, and mixes in interviews with actors and comedians.
I don't watch many of these at all, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But Rush seems to think that he's having a serious show, whereas I get the impression that Oberman understands that some of his show is just that - a show. i.e. throwing the papers on the ground etc.. I'm not saying he isn't trying to make a statement, but he doesn't seem to take himself 100% serious like I get the impression that Rush does.

But I've watched about 2 hours of Oberman in my life and listened to Rush about 1 so I could be off on both of those guys.

Will those cuts be in the forms of larger rebates or will it just be not paying taxes through the year.

What happens to corporations that "sell" $3 million (which is obviously >>>>>> 250K) of services but only make $199K after paying employees, taxes, insurance, etc? Would their taxes lower?

Some good snippets...

SweetHomeAlObama: I personally hate each and every one of our troops, and I want to bring them home just so I can punch them in the face.
SweetHomeAlObama: I have a special needle-firing gun that can give you breast cancer, and I think people with Multiple sclerosis got it because they deserved it!
SweetHomeAlObama: I not only support gay marriage but am gay myself, and after this speech I'm going to drop trou' and make out with him in front of your children and babies.
SweetHomeAlObama: And then I'm going to give all of your tax money to science to develop a way for men to have babies, so that I may impregnate and abort from within him continuously.

CNN reported today that Obama has a 10 point lead in Virginia, moving it from the "toss up" column into Obama territory. This after W won the state by 8 points over Kerry.

There is a good article in the recent New Yorker about the leading local strategist in rural southwestern Virginia, a prolific swearer, Bubba-type who played a huge role in getting Mark Warner elected, and who is now helping Obama. Sounds like it might be working.

In a related story, Bill Bennett is crustier than the boogers in my nose.

Your withholding (paying taxes throughout the year) should be set so that you don't get a large rebate (or a large bill) on tax day. If it's not you can adjust it. This is not related to any proposed changes to tax policy.

Business taxes are on profits and not revenues, so a $199k net profit company would not pay more tax.

FWIW, the new buzzword this week by the right appears to be "socialist/socialism". It's really been ramping up. Even with prominent Republicans more and more interested in federal control of the banking system, which would be a bigger move towards socialism than anything Obama has proposed.
