Biden, maybe.

Obama making fun of him would be a stretch.

After all, he patiently took time out to explain his position to
someone who was obviously sandbagging him. And explained
it in a way that any other candidate couldn't or wouldn't.

Which I applauded then and do so now.
Obama said to the effect that he doesn't know of any plumbers that make $250k a year. But I am sure the Messiah wouldn't be making fun of anyone.

What's the point of jumping in here to take a shot like that? I guess the answer is in the question.
Obama did indeed make fun of him. He said something along the lines of this, in his usual elitist tone: "The plumber's the guy he's fighting for." Lots of laughter from the crowd. "How many plumbers do you know making $250,000 a year?"
poor joe...republicans always are getting their feelings hurt, yet they call obama a terrorist with no shame.

and i just LOVE the elitist charge...a black man growing up in america by his grandmother is the elitist and the man who has 10+ houses and 10+ cars is the man of the people.
I never claimed McCain wasn't an elitist. I don't care how Obama grew up, he's an elitist now. He certainly comes off that way. Maybe it's just how he acts like he's smarter than anyone else he runs across.
i never claimed that you claimed mccain wasn't an elitist.

i dont get how obama acts like he is smarter than everyone. and frankly, i dont have a problem with the president of the united states being smarter than everyone...

I've assumed McCain was using Joe as an example of a potential small business owner, not as an example of a working class plumber. His contention all along has been that Obama's plan would hurt small businesses earning at the $250k level.
Then why doesn't he call him Joe Potential Business Owner who could make 250k a year? I'm not buying it.

See my edit.

Was it him that coined "joe the plumber?" If so, it's a bit catchier than your idea. Seriously though, I haven't thought for a second that he was using him as an example of how Obama's plan would affect the working class.

That's because you pay attention. But it makes a great sound bite for people who don't. Heck, a lot of people think they are referring to revenues, not earnings. In all seriousness, I think it's important for Obama to clarify what's going on.

edit - yes, McCain coined "Joe the plumber" in the 3rd debate.

McCain finished 4th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Obama got a degree in Poly Sci from Columbia and then went on to Harvard Law School. Only the best of the best get in there, and of those best of the best Obama excelled. He was named based on his grades and a writing competition as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Big time stuff. In his second year he was elected president of the Law Review, supervising the Law Review's staff of eighty editors. Agains the best and brightest this country has to offer at Harvard Law School, Obama graduated Magnu C um Laude.

So let's take the gloves off here and get something straight. Obama acts smarter than McCain because he is smarter.

I'd like the president to be smarter than most. I don't think we'll see that again. (Not that we ever have, but these two don't cut it.)

Obama's tone a lot of times comes across that way. Maybe not smarter than anyone else, but it's clearly that way to anyone who disagrees with him. While he may target McCain or Palin with the exact words, those that support the republican ticket should and likely do take offense to it.

I don't think the POTUS should use the tone he does at times. That's it. No big deal. This just happened to be one of those times. It's not like it changes my view on him at all.

Exactly. Glad I'm not the only one who's tired of being talked to like I'm in Kindergarten.

While I don't think Obama is the least bit pretentious, I do think there are times when he comes across as somewhat condescending. The only time I've heard this tone, however, is when he's attempting to discount an accusation by his opponent that he considers "politics as usual". And in my opinion, condescension is fair game to combat false accusations.

How about his conversation with Joe the Plumber? That was five minutes of brilliance as far as I was concerned. I'd definitely have a beer with a Obama.

I agree that how he handled that was very good. I mean, you know I don't agree with the message, but how he spoke to him was good. I think most impressive was the fact that he knew he wasn't getting Joe's vote, but he took the time anyway.
