I agree that Obama is smart. I think McCain is much smarter than people give him credit for.

But I don't think either are where I'd want a president.

Hobson's choice, then.

Does this mean you won't vote?

I won't vote if you won't.

Wait, where do you live again?
Here in Missouri.

I'll vote as much as I don't like either guy. I just like one a tiny bit more.
So do you consider both McCain and Obama a step down from the president we've had the last 8 years?
Maybe he's not confident that either could adequately clean up the mess.

I flat out think McCain is a worse choice than we have right now. Two months ago I would have never believed I could utter something like that, but it's true. I'd take 4 more years of Bush before 4 more of McCain.

I'd take Bill Ayers over McCain at this point. (that's a joke, kind of).

it's really very sad.

I used to admire the man a great deal 8 years ago. I'm flabbergasted at what he's become and the level he's been willing to stoop to. I, too, would worry about his presidency being the same as his campaign...and worse than what we've had, especially with luminaries like Palin standing next to him.

When/If McCain loses the "my friends" will throw him under the bus.

If I looked for it I could find somewhere on here where I commented that at least we were going to have a president I would respect, even if I disagreed with his policies. I've lost all respect for the man, and like you I had a great deal of admiration at one point.

I was one of those who, without knowing much at all about John McCain, also thought he'd be a fine President. But there is a journalist and former GRBer who insisted there was more than meets the eye and it wasn't at all good. Hearsay, I know, but between that, having a better understanding of his history and watching him the last few weeks makes me wonder if she was onto something.

I've never been much of a McCain fan, but my view of him hasn't changed at all in the last several months.

It hasn't changed for the good or for the worse? He's done some pretty awful things.

It seems that McCain was historically more liked by non-Republicans than he was by his own party until he became the Republican nominee. Now non-Republicans can't stand him as they've been appalled by his (Republicanian) campaign while Republicans remain lukewarm towards him.

There's a saying that warns of the dangers of trying to please everyone but McCain seems to have taken it to another level of not pleasing anyone.
