If they trade Wallace for him they damn well better sign him.

Josh Willingham: .297/.415/.569 OPS:.984 OPS+:158
Matt Holliday: .287/.379/.453 OPS:.832 OPS+:125
Matt Holliday 2007: .340/.405/.607 OPS:1.012 OPS+:150
Willingham is just barely older than Holliday as well... Just sayin'...

i fall into the mo/luhnow category of hating getting rid of young talent i guess..AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:to be honest, red, i was surprised you would be so against Holliday for Wallace...omaha_red wrote:do ya'll remember when matt holliday used to destroy the cards at busch stadium?

remember the mulder trade? anyway.. i also hate that it's a half year rental and agree
with those who say if we make this trade we had better sign him to an extension
(if he proves to be worth it).. i know no one knows this answer.. but does holliday
put us into the playoffs/world series? if not.. and he doesn't sign.. i don't want to
hear about it here for the next 10 years when wallace is an all-star..

Re: Matt Holliday & Willingham Thread (new: Holliday rumor 7/23)
I feel like this is almost exactly what a bolstered farm system should mean for a team like the Cardinals. If we continue to draft well and sign people like Mateo and Miller, AND have the (potential) payroll in the top ten, then prospects can a) be brought up for bullpen and/or bench help or b) coveted players like Wallace can be traded for players like Holliday who we can afford because we have talented youth on the low end of the payroll. So we'd have a core of Albert and 4-5 other $12 million+ players, and change out the rest of the roster as the situation warrants. That's an idealistic oversimplification, but I see a philosophy there. I like it better than "Albert and a bunch of kids" every year.
I don't like that it's for half a season, but I think we're close to doing something this year, and Wallace may never be palatable in the NL. Either way, if Holliday is on the roster next week, then I'm a happy fan.

Considering that Holliday will be a type A and I dont think Wallace is a 3B, I don't mind this as much as I thought I did when I first heard about it.

That's exactly my thoughts. I've enjoyed the "rise of the farm system", but am really ready for another championship run. With Carp and AW dealing, it just seems like we could make a real run this year, even with a depressed offense.Either way, if Holliday is on the roster next week, then I'm a happy fan.

I would love Holliday, but you really would have to give up Wallace for 1/2 season? That seems too much to me.
