If those numbers are true then I say get lost. I hope someone offers him 15 years at 1 billion.epinephrine wrote:Sorry to break up the ancient discussion and post something relevant to the topic (I kid, I kid), but Joe Strauss has retracted his previous statement: 6/96 has not been offered to Holliday, and even a Soriano-esque contract (8/136) will not get it done. Say goodbye.

I find it helpful to take whatever Joe Strauss says and assume exactly the opposite is true.

Yes it is a little difficult to swallow what he is saying now immediately after he retracts what he said before.haltz wrote:I find it helpful to take whatever Joe Strauss says and assume exactly the opposite is true.

he always seems like the least plugged-in insider in the history of journalism. Like if he gets a piece of news it's either misinformation, someone [expletive] with him, or directly from the agent.
$140M for sure doesn't get it done? Maybe he'll get more but that's a preposterous thing to say at this point. Common sense gets you a better answer than Strauss insider info.
His last real, big scoop I remember was Kennedy asking for a trade if he wasn't going to play everyday. But boy did he hype it up.
Plus JSL is nauseating.
some dork: Oh benevolent grand chatmeister, tamer of the tsunami..

Re: Update: The Matt Holliday Off-Season Thread
Nothing was confirmed, though. He just said he heard "suggestions" that they had offered 6/96 to Holliday, and a day later, confirmed that they had not. However, I'm going to say Strauss is on the right track, if (and only if) a market develops for Holliday. So far, it sounds like the Red Sox are going for Jason Bay, the Yankees have said they want to retain Damon, Manny will certainly exercise his player option, and the Giants won't be able to throw 21 per at Holliday. What teams am I forgetting here...MrSaigon wrote:Yes it is a little difficult to swallow what he is saying now immediately after he retracts what he said before.haltz wrote:I find it helpful to take whatever Joe Strauss says and assume exactly the opposite is true.
edit: oh yeah, the Mets. lawl.

Haven't Damon and Matsui been a little fragile? Matsui is old and either one could just DH. Maybe I am listening to too much sports radio but every station - from national to local seems to think Holliday is going to NY.
