According to Rosenthal, "some who know [Matt] Holliday say he would prefer not to play in New York."

I'm Not buying any rumors about Holliday anymore. Ill look into Holliday's status when he resigns with the Cardinals or some other team. The point is nobody knows for sure.

That quote is funny to me. It's like, "Matt really doesn't want to play in New York, BUT if no one else wants to give him 200 million then I guess he'll have to do it anyway. Please don't make him go to New York."

Rosenthal makes Holliday sound like Bartleby the Outfielder.

These threads are huge!

I want Holliday to come back, I think he is a difference maker. I think that he wants to stay here. There isn't as much pressure, but it's not a mediocre team like Oakland. It depends on how much the big market teams offer compared to what we offer. I like to think that he'd settle for a little bit less to stay here. But who knows what goes through their minds. I just wish he didn't have that little devil on his shoulder whispering in his ear.

So
Bay has averaged 31 home runs and 103 RBIs while taking 2,831 at-bats the last five seasons, compared to Holliday's average of 28 home runs and 107 RBIs in 2,837 at-bats in the same span.
Not a huge difference, so why is Holliday considered so much more desirable?

Holliday is a better hitter and a much better defender.

3 year OPS+ avg:

Holliday 144
Bay 120

career UZR/150:

Holliday +6.9
Bay -7.9

Thanks. I meant, theoretically though. Can the Cardinals tie up (potentially, including Albert in a few years) 40+ mil a year for two players a year? Is Bay (at your past amount) really that much of a downgrade (monetarily vs offense/defense)?
