Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com cites a source as saying Matt Holliday will not give any special preference to the Cardinals.
"He was there two months," said a source with knowledge of the developing Boras/Holliday plan. "St. Louis is a good place to play — a great city with a good fan base. But do I think it holds any special significance to him? No." Once their exclusive window to negotiate closes at 12:01 am on Friday, they'll become just another team in the eyes of Scott Boras.

The Yankees are not interested in signing Matt Holliday, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
Writes Olney, via Twitter: "They'll talk to Boras to keep other bidders honest, but corner outfield not a priority for them." This is no surprise, as the Yankees did their high-end shopping last offseason. Still, it's a sage strategy by the defending champs to keep Scott Boras on speed dial to ensure one of their competitors has to pay through the nose for Holliday.

If they're not interested, they're not interested. If you, a competitor, know they aren't interested and that they're only talking to Boras (or claiming to talk to Boras) to drive up your bid, are you really going to fall for that?

Does anyone else find that to be, oh, I don't know, INSANE?!?

Does anyone believe anything these guys say?

Personally, I don't believe them any more than what I hear on the street. Year in and year out they consistently have these stories that prove to be incorrect.

To be fair, they weren't that interested in Texiera but jumped in when it looked like Boston was going to get him, and ended up with him. Swisher was supposed to be their first baseman.

Does it give a projection for how many more flyballs will hit him in the nuts instead of landing in his glove?

If a team makes a confirmed offer and you want to top it, then top it. Don't up your bid, because another team is allegedly talking to the player's agent.

You can't confirm a teams bid. That's collusion, iirc. So, you either believe the media or you don't. Moz can't call Cashman to discuss what went down.

On 101.1 today, they were playing audio clips of Wainwright. Wainwright said that he keeps texting Holliday telling him that he and the team really want him back. Waino said, "I keep asking him if I'm going to be disappointed with his decision, and every text I get back after that question doesn't disappoint me."

Take it for what it's worth. Good to see the team rallying behind him...and having the Yankees fall out of the running is a good sign.

If you have multiple sources and you trust them, that's good enough for me. But a rumor that so-and-so is talking with so-and-so shouldn't really have any bearing on what you do.

Hopefully the Cardinals address their budget, decide what they feel holliday is worth, make a good bid for his services, and get the deal done. Somehow, I'm feeling this isn't going to happen though.
